Dani explains that the inevitable isolation from the rest of the world was the best possible incentive to to get the work done while creating an eerie atmosphere.
"We spent the whole day in the studio and didn't see anyone, and then I drove home through a completely deserted city.
A deserted city. It felt like Scott and I existed in a locked dormitory.
It was a great feeling, but also very surreal. We were working all summer and the weather was fabulous. For almost five months it was just Scott and I doing the lockdowns!
The good thing was that at least three of the songs were completely reworked during that time.
I was listening to the demos recently and thinking, 'Damn, why didn't we put that on the album?'
But we put it on the album, it just took on a whole different face. So that was a good by-product of the lockdown situation."
Sonically, Existence Is Futile is by far the strongest and most dramatic album that
CRADLE OF FILTH have ever made: It's the sound of the band's enviable onstage chemistry spilling over into the studio, propelling each member of the band to new heights of intensity.
