Nightwork" was the third album by Diabolical Masquerade. It was recorded at The Sanctuary in April 1998 and released the same year. The album was produced by Dan Swan (Opeth, Katatonia) and Blakkheim.
Although it was a solo project, Blakkheim enlisted the help of Dan Swan, who handled the drums and also contributed with some keyboards and backing vocals.
Diabolical Masquerade was primarily based on symphonic/melodic black metal, using keyboards to create eerie atmospheres and employing more energetic and technical compositions than those of his main band, with complex riffs and hooks. On this album, synthesizers were integrated more than before to convey a strong horror theme. Cello and flute were also used to further develop this atmosphere.
