Description
Bleed's first EP, “Somebody's Closer”, was initially self-released by the band in 2021 via digital platforms. Though the EP, which invokes late 90s/early 00s alt-rock/metal, was not released in physical form, the Dallas, Texas-based band's gauzy distortion - creating tension and atmosphere in equal measure - garnered a lot of attention and caught the attention of 20 Buck Spin via several mutual connections.
Bleed's self-titled LP retains the melodic heaviness and tight song structures of the EP while diving headfirst into the oceanic haze, propelling their sound into territory that's more haunting, relentless and hypnotically lush. The guitars sway in piled-up waves of gravitational anxiety, eccentrically overdriven rhythms pulsing underneath, and guitarist and vocalist Ryan Hughes' voice floats in and out, sometimes distant and detached, sometimes torn open with despair. The lyrics move in fragments, alluding to themes of deep inner struggles, coping mechanisms and hurting the ones you love the most. It's music that doesn't demand attention so much as it seeps straight into the bloodstream, the kind of album that gets stuck in the back of your mind on an endless loop at 3am.
