Description
Deicide was formed in Tampa, Florida in 1987 and eventually settled on this name in 1989. The addition of vocalist and bassist Glen Benton considerably increased the controversy surrounding the band.
Benton pushed an overtly satanic and anti-Christian message and famously branded an upside-down crucifix into his forehead. Following a controversial interview with NME, the band was targeted by animal rights activists, resulting in bomb threats in Sweden and the UK. The band refused to compromise and baited conservatives with provocative songs such as 'Behead the Prophet (No Lord Shall Live)', 'Christ Denied' and, infamously, 'Kill the Christian'.
In 2005, Deicide were featured in the BBC series Death Metal Murders, which sought to connect murders in Italy with the band's music. As far back as 1991, in a Channel 4 piece called 'Dancing with the Devil', Benton claimed to be possessed.
According to Soundscan, both Deicide and Legion are officially certified among the top five best-selling death metal records of all time in the US. The band continues to record and tour to this day.
This release features extensive liner notes by the respected writer Dom Lawson. These include new interviews with the producer Scott Burns, the A&R legend Monte Conner, the Akercocke drummer and Deicide superfan David Gray, and the Cradle of Filth founding member Paul Ryan.
This release features an exclusive, extensive interview with Deicide drummer, songwriter and founding member Steve Asheim, conducted in early 2025.
Housed in a rigid slipcase box bearing a debossed 'Trifixion' logo, the CDs are presented in quality card wallets and complemented by four reproduction postcards featuring classic images of the band. A huge booklet details the incredible story of one of the most notorious bands in death metal history.
