Description
Released in September 1974, the album is considered one of the band's best and featured a new line-up that saw the departure of Robert Calvert and Dik Mik and the arrival of keyboardist and violinist Simon House.
The album includes classics such as “The Psychedelic Warlords”, “Wind of Change”, “D-Rider”, “You'd Better Believe It”, “Lost Johnny” and ‘Paradox’ and consists of studio recordings and overdubbed live recordings of concerts at the Edmonton Sundown in London in January 1974. “Hall of the Mountain Grill” was another UK Top 20 hit for the band.
This limited edition deluxe box set comprises seven CDs and two Blu-ray discs and includes a brand new remastered version of the original album with seven bonus tracks from studio outtakes and rare singles, as well as two complete, previously unreleased concerts mixed by Stephen W. Taylor. The first was recorded in January 1974 in Edmonton, London, a benefit concert for imprisoned LSD activist Timothy Leary, with Robert Calvert and Joanna Harcourt-Smith, Leary's partner, appearing as guests. The second is a complete concert recorded on March 22, 1974 at the Allen Theatre in Cleveland, Ohio. In addition, the set includes Stephen W. Taylor's new mix of the complete 1999 Party concert at the Auditorium in Chicago on March 21, 1974.
The set also includes two Blu-ray discs with an impressive 5.1 surround sound upmix of “Hall of the Mountain Grill” (the multitrack master tapes have unfortunately been lost) and a 5.1 surround sound mix of Hawkwind's concert at the Allen Theatre in Cleveland from the original 16-track master tapes.
Rounding out the set is an illustrated book with a new essay, making this box set the definitive release of this legendary album.
