Description
The Thuringian metal masters unpack the hard metal trowel for the fifth time. They have long since broken free from the shackles of the metalcore genre, and Iconoclast offer premium-class death lead.
Maik Weichert and his four comrades-in-arms celebrate their melodic death metal with more variety than ever before. While the previous CD, Deaf To Our Prayers, was still a single-minded, constant blast, Iconoclast occasionally ventures into calmer waters, surprises with stylistic twists and turns and gains a lot of depth through the sonic additions of the exceptional Icelandic musician Ólafur Arnalds, who has been part of the band's close creative environment for years. Heaven Shall Burn have shaped their sound in such a multi-dimensional way that even the cover of the atmospheric death metal classic “Black Tears” (Edge Of Sanity) hardly stands out as a foreign body. With their fifth album, the East Germans have finally carved out their very own niche in the metal universe and paved the way for many more exciting recordings.
