On their fourth album, "Stave", Osi and the Jupiter offer the listener a unique journey through the delicate sounds of a long-lost music informed by the innate mysticism of their homeland, the Appalachian Mountains of eastern Ohio. The sounds explored on "Stave" seem at once comforting and harrowing, confronting the listener with a sonic palette that may at first seem alien and detached from the comforts of the modern world. However, if one fully engages with these sounds, one will inevitably find that "Stave" offers access to a world that modern man may have forgotten, but which nevertheless lurks all around us if one is willing to open one's mind and ears. Thus, the occasional vocal by Sean Kratz (vocals, guitars, synthesizer) serves as an earnest expression of breathing a sigh of relief, accompanied by gently plucked acoustic guitar and atmospheric sounds. However, 'Stave' showcases Osi and the Jupiter's growing and increasingly ambitious artistic expression, as they have managed to fuse the elements of their sound that listeners have become accustomed to since the project's inception in 2015, with a diverse, expansive sonic depth created through carefully crafted synthesiser work and further acoustic instrumentation. Holding these elements together is Kakophonix's sombre cello playing and expressive string work throughout the album, which regularly serve as the foundation upon which the more expansive elements are built. On "Stave", strong rhythmic impulses created by deep percussion and accentuated strumming patterns serve as a kind of ancient pulse that grabs the listener and draws him or her further into the world of Osi and Jupiter. In essence, this album serves as a soundtrack to long-forgotten times and a form of spirituality that transcends conventional modern religion, allowing the listener to be transported into a realm of which he or she may never have been aware, but which is nonetheless immediate and captivating. The custom artwork for "Stave" serves as the ideal visual component for the sonic journey Osi and the Jupiters have created.
