After fulfilling the Leviathan trilogy with the release of Leviathan III, Swedish symphonic metal legends THERION re-release their legendary album, Les Fleurs Du Mal, via Napalm Records on November 22, 2024. With more than 35 years under their belts, the band around mastermind Christofer Johnsson was one of the first to combine metal with symphonic and orchestral elements back in the 90s, and are considered one of the most style-defining founders of symphonic metal today.

Originally, Les Fleurs Du Mal was released in 2012 to celebrate the band’s then-25^th anniversary, and is an homage to French art and music. Its title (eng. flowers of evil) is inspired by a famous poem collection with the same title by French writer and poet Charles Baudelarie (1821-1867). This collection caused such an onslaught of emotions once it was released in France that the author was brought to court, and some of the poems were even prohibited in France until 1949. But the album is not only an homage to Baudelaire, as the 16 songs are cover versions of French chansons from the 1960s and 1970s, and were brought to life via the trademark sound profile of THERION. Les Fleurs Du Mal is a clear standout in the band’s discography and proves that mastermind Christofer Johnsson has never shied away from combining various influences and forms of art with incredible talent. THERION have perfected their very own combination of versatile styles - resulting in the creation of a symphonic league of their own.
