Between 1981 and 1985, Venom released seven influential singles in their classic line-up, which, together with the albums Welcome to Hell and Black Metal, laid the foundations for extreme and black metal. This phase is considered the high point of the band's history. The compilation The Seven Gates of Hell brings together these singles in chronological order, including B-sides and a rare live version of “Witching Hour”. Originally released on CD in 2003, the new vinyl edition also includes a live version of “Warhead” and an in-depth essay with new insights from drummer Abaddon.
