Wyrd - CD

WYRD, the third full-length album by Crawling Chaos, is an anthology-based work centred on a series of archetypes associated with destiny, fate and transformation. In Northern European culture, these ideas are encapsulated by the term 'wyrd', as opposed to the notions of free will and self-determination. This main theme is expanded upon and explored across the ten tracks of the album, which follow a narrative thread that connects some of the most intriguing female figures from classical mythology, European folklore and history, from the Norse Norns and the witches from Macbeth who serve Hecate to the Greco-Roman Furies and the fearsome Thessalian necromancers. As with Crawling Chaos's previous works, WYRD is full of literary references and Easter eggs, offering subtle nods to curious listeners. Musically speaking, the album is uncompromisingly heavy and dark.
