Description
For a soundtrack to the end of the world, there is no better band than Electric Wizard.
As the COVID pandemic took hold in 2020 and movement was restricted to the immediate area, the legendary British doom band wondered if they would ever play live again. Out in the wilds of the English Westcountry, where singer/guitarist Jus Oborn and guitarist Liz Buckingham live, the band retreated to their cryptic jam room to make a live album like no other. With no audience or online presence, they recorded themselves with a 16-track cassette machine to capture their essence, their ferocity, their ferocity.
“At that point we'd already been playing gigs for two years, three times in America, in Japan and Australia, and by the end we were sounding pretty good,” says Jus. “When the pandemic hit, we thought, 'Fuck it, we might never play again'. So we went into the jam room and played the songs to capture on tape how we played back then.” The final product, Black Magic Rituals and Perversions Vol. 1, is as raw and heavy as you'd expect from The Wizard.
